HOW TO SLEEP

THIS IS MY FIRST POST TO ARROPOSTI COLLECTED FROM MANY MEDICAL ARTICLES AND EDITED THAT AND POSTING TO VIEW ALL
If you have trouble falling asleep on most nights or wake up several times during sleep and  feel tired during the day, it is time you acknowledge that insomnia is taking its toll on you.
Factors like increasing age, hormonal changes (eg: thyroid disease), physical ailments or diseases may cause sleeplessness. Any type of physical pain can also preventing you from having a good night’s sleep.
Regular night-outs or late night parties, high amounts of junk food (especially at night), irregular eating, sleeping at odd hours, working late nights or working the night shift triggers a random response in the “Circadian Cycle” (responsible for maintaining natural processes) and may eventually cause insomnia.
Some of the medicines like those for the heart and blood pressure, antidepressants, steroids, weight loss medications etc can cause insomnia. If you have been taking sleeping pills for a while, withdrawal symptoms may cause rebound insomnia.
Stress, anxiety, depression and bipolar disorders are on the major modern-day causes that can keep you awake through the night. Professional help may be required in such cases.
Tips to sleep better:
1.                Stick to your sleep time – Each one of one is unique, even with our sleep patterns. Some people feel refreshed with only 6 hours of sleep; others might need 9 – 10 hours. Know what your body needs. Fix up your sleep time accordingly. Always maintain regular sleep and waking up times to regularize your sleep patterns.
2.                Visit the doctor – Your physician can help to review any drugs, medical conditions or stressful situations that may be causing your insomnia or making it worse.
3.                Lifestyle management – Maintain a routine that is not extreme. If your work demands it, balance it by other factors like diet and a healthy mental state. Meditation, creative visualization may help you be calmer and restful.
4.                Daytime sleepiness – Stop those afternoon naps. Indulge in some physical activity that requires you to move about during that time.
5.                Physical activity – Physical exercise or a walk before bed time is ideal for chronic insomnia. Team up with someone or even with soothing music to help you maintain it as a habit.
6.                Diet – Have a healthy dinner, drink warm milk or herbal tea with camomile. Avoid caffeine, alcohol and tobacco to help you sleep quickly.
7.                Pamper yourself to sleep – Warm bath with bath salts, massages, soothing music or chants, stomach rub or a hot water bottle can help.
8.                Avoid any engaging activity  – Watching TV or reading a book just because you cannot sleep may often work against letting you sleep.
9.                Do something monotonous – Count sheep or try to chant the alphabet backwards. Keep at it till you sleep out of sheer boredom.
Follow these simple rules and realize that your body needs rest and therefore it is absolutely imperative that you get enough sleep. Research suggests a lot of diseases, conditions, stress-related disorders, etc. can be avoided by ensuring you get a good night’s sleep.
Sleeping Directions
Vasthu Sastra and Siddhas highlights sleep as an important aspect of good health. In order to enjoy sound sleep, one must have a bedroom with a peaceful environment.
Sleeping in the wrong direction can also cause health problems. Vasthu Sastra recommends that the head must be placed towards the east for undisturbed sleep. The second best sleeping direction is with the head towards the west, the third choice is south.
People who observe these directions will receive positive energy when they wake up. These positions will also enhance the person's blood circulation.
The head should never be towards north while sleeping. Never sleep with the head towards the north because the magnetic field of the earth lies in a north-south direction energy levels can be thrown out of balance by this strong field. Sleeping in this direction may cause difficulties in having children, nightmare and disturbed sleep.
Our head is considered north and if we place our head towards north, the magnetic repulsion between similar poles occurs.
This position can also result in the dweller experiencing physically low or high blood pressure, insomnia or a high level of cholesterol. This can be prevented by rotating the head position to south. Vasthu Sastra recommends the right location or quadrant a couple should sleep in.
The south-west sector is the most powerful quadrant in Vasthu Sastra because it is the area where positive energy is stored. (For this reason, the extreme south-west corner must not have windows or doors; as such openings will release the energy that has gathered in the house).

10 Tips for Getting Through Your Day, Even With a Cough or Cold

You have a cold, maybe an annoying cough. But what if you can't call in sick and you have to be at work? These tips can help you make it through the day.
Drink. Sip water, juice, broths, and other clear liquids all day. Staying hydrated helps your immune system fight sickness. It can also help loosen mucus and replace fluids you lose from blowing your nose. Keep a healthy supply of drinks right at your desk.
However, avoid drinks such as coffee, caffeinated sodas, and energy drinks. When it’s quitting time, say "no" to hot toddies. Alcohol is dehydrating, too.
Eat ice chips. If your throat hurts, ice chips may help with soreness and pain. Bonus: They’ll also work to keep you hydrated.
Spray. Use a saline spray to help a stuffy nose. It helps congestion by loosening mucus and rinsing your sinuses.
Numb up. If a hacking cough is wearing you out, keep cough drops, throat spray, and over-the-counter cough suppressants at your desk. The first two can help numb and soothe a sore throat. A cough suppressant can keep that "need to cough" feeling away.
Relieve your pain. Over-the-counter acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen bring down fever and reduce inflammation to help with achiness.
Other over-the-counter cold remedies can be helpful, too. However, you should know that while they can make you feel a bit better, they won’t shorten how long you’re sick. Some cold medicines have pain relievers in them, too, so you could accidentally take more than you need. Read labels first and try not to use more than one medication at a time.
Avoid smoke. Smoking, secondhand smoke, and other not-so-fresh air can really bother your nose, throat, and lungs. Make it easier on yourself while you’re working to get better.
Still sick? Call your doctor. If you’ve been sick for seven days and you’re not getting better -- or if you’re getting worse -- it may be more than a cold. Your cold (usually caused by a virus) may have given way to a bacterial infection. Call your doctor to see if you need antibiotics to clear it up.
Be a loner. To avoid passing your germs to co-workers, avoid contact with others as best you can. Sneeze and cough inside the crook of your elbow -- not into your hands. Wash your hands often with soap and water  and try to avoid shaking hands.
Rest. After work, go home and get a good meal -- try chicken soup. Then, get in bed! When you’re sick, your body needs rest and sleep. Give it what it needs to get better.
Vaporize. While you rest or sleep, run a clean humidifier or a cool-mist vaporizer in your room. It can ease stuffiness and help you breathe better.

How to be happy

The secret to happiness is pretty straightforward. Learn to Live with what you have. Never grieve over what you don't have. And simply don’t have any expectations.

Once a man met a Sufi Master and wanted to know the secret to happiness. And the Master told him this story.

There was once a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and noticed she had only 3 strands of hair on her head. "Well", she said, "I think I will braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day. The next day, she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two strands of hair on her head. "Hmm," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day! The next day, she looked in the mirror and noticed she had only one hair on her head. "Well" she said, "I am going to wear a ponytail today." So she did and had a fun, fun day! The next day, she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed there wasn't a single hair on her head. "Yeah!", she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!".'

That ability, said the Master, to look at what you have and not worry about what you don't have, is the simple secret to happinessLearn to Live with what you have, you too will have have a grand, wonderful, fun, fun Life!

Some thoughts

Someone has written these beautiful words.

Do read and try to understand the deep meaning of it.
They are like the ten commandments to follow in life all the time.

1. Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble,
But it is a "steering wheel" that    directs the right path   throughout.

2. So why is a car's windshield so large and the rear view mirror so small?
Because our past is not as important as our future. So, look ahead and move on.

3. Friendship is like a book. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.

4. All things in life are temporary. If it's going well, enjoy it, that won't last long.
If it's going badly, don't worry, that won't last long either.

5. Old friends are gold! New friends are diamonds!
If you get a diamond, don't forget the gold!
Because to hold a diamond, you always need a base of gold!

6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, God smiles from above and says,
"Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!"

7. When God solves your problems, you have faith in His abilities;
When God doesn't solve your problems, He has faith in your abilities.

8. A blind person asked St. Anthony,
"Can there be anything worse than losing eyesight?"
He replied, "Yes, losing your vision!"

9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them;
Sometimes, when you are safe and happy,
Remember that someone has prayed for you.

10. Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles,
     It takes away today's peace.

If you really enjoy this, please pass to others.
    It may brighten someone's day.

Incredible news!
Monday, May 20, 2013 by: Jonathan Benson, staff writer
(Natural
News) The most popular fresh fruit in the world, mangoes are a whole lot more than just a delicious, refreshing treat produced by nature. As evidenced by copious scientific research, mangoes are also a powerful medicinal food, as they contain nutrients that can help clear up skin, promote eye health, stave off diabetes, and even prevent the formation and spread of cancer.
3.4129655263@web142602.mail.bf1.yahoo.com4.4129655263@web142602.mail.bf1.yahoo.com

Research recently presented at a meeting of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), for instance, revealed that eating mangoes every day can help moderate and even lower blood sugar levels, despite their natural sugar content. This is good news for people with type 2 diabetes who may benefit from consuming mangoes regularly as part of a low-sugar diet.
 5.4129655263@web142602.mail.bf1.yahoo.com6.4129655263@web142602.mail.bf1.yahoo.com
For their study, researchers tested the effects of mangoes on a group of obese animals, some of whom were given 10 grams of freeze-dried mango every day for 12 weeks. At the end of three months, the blood sugar levels of those animals that consumed mango were compared to those that did not consume mango. Based on the data, mango consumption was found to result in a significant decline in blood sugar levels.

"Although the mechanism by which mango exerts its effects warrants further investigation, we do know that mangoes contain a complex mixture of polyphenolic compounds," says Dr. Edralin Lucas, Ph.D., author of the study.

Similar research out of Australia found back in 2006 that eating mango can also help decrease inflammation and resulting high cholesterol, as well as block the formation of various health conditions included under the banner of metabolic syndrome. In essence, mangoes actually work better than cholesterol drugs at naturally balancing and optimizing cellular function throughout the body.

"We don't know yet how the whole thing's going to play out but we know some of the individual components (of mango) activate these receptors and even inhibit them," said a doctor from University of Queensland about the effects of mango consumption on cellular processes. "That could end up with positive nutritional health benefits for diabetes and high cholesterol."

And again in 2011, researchers from Oklahoma State University found that mango consumption helps lower insulin resistance and improve glucose tolerance in test mice. The same study also found that mangoes help normalize lipid levels throughout the blood, which in turn can help prevent the development of cardiovascular disease.
Eating mangoes can also help you avoid cancer
But the health benefits of mango do not stop here. Science has identified more than 4,000 different antioxidant polyphenols in the plant kingdom, and many of these polyphenols are present in mangoes. The primary benefit of these polyphenols is that they scavenge damaging free radicals and protect cells against damage, which is believed to facilitate and even promote cancer.
 10.4129655263@web142602.mail.bf1.yahoo.com
"If you look at [mango] from the physiological and nutritional standpoint, taking everything together, it would be a high-ranking superfood," says Dr. Susanne Talcott, who together with her husband discovered back in 2010 that mango compounds target both colon and breast cancer cells.

"What we found is that not all cell lines are sensitive to the same extent to an anticancer agent. But the breast and colon cancer lines underwent apoptosis, or programmed cell death. Additionally, we found that when we tested normal colon cells side by side with the colon cancer cells, that the mango polyphenolics did not harm the normal cells."

In other words, mango compounds effectively target and eliminate harmful cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone, a phenomenon that is unique to nature and nowhere to be found in pharmaceutical-based medicine. Chemotherapy and radiation, for instance, which are the two most popular conventional treatments for cancer, damage healthy cells along with malignant cells, which is why the treatments are a failure as far as long-term survival is concerned.
